本赛季在英格兰联赛杯中，曼联在第三轮就0-1负于西汉姆早早出局。在足总杯第四轮，曼联面对英冠球队米德尔斯堡，两队在120分钟内战成1-1平，点球大战曼联7-8失利。如今在欧冠赛场上曼联也被淘汰出局，而目前曼联在英超积分榜上以50分排名第五位，落后领头羊曼城20分之多，夺冠肯定无望。

接下来曼联在本赛季仅存的目标就是力争英超前四。目前英超积分榜第四名是积51分的阿森纳，但阿森纳比曼联少赛三场，一旦完成补赛阿森纳有望将积分差距拉大。而曼联身后的西汉姆（48分）、狼队（46分）、热刺（45分，少赛两场）也都还有超越曼联甚至争取第四名的机会，可以说曼联面临的竞争非常激烈，在最后的9轮英超联赛中，曼联只要稍有挫折就可能无缘下赛季的欧冠参赛资格。

曼联本赛季再一次四大皆空，甚至连争夺第四名都不保险，如今的曼联早已没有了当年英超霸主的统治力。曼联上一次夺冠还是在2016-17赛季，那个赛季的曼联在主帅穆里尼奥带领下获得社区盾杯、联赛杯、欧联杯小三冠王。但当时曼联高层和球迷们对穆里尼奥的执教都并不满意，不过五年之后再看，穆里尼奥已经是弗格森退休后曼联拥有过的最佳主帅。

如今曼联依然看不到重返巅峰的希望，现任主帅朗尼克的执教合同在本赛季结束后到期，之后将担任曼联俱乐部顾问。而曼联又需要寻找新主帅，目前波切蒂诺、图赫尔、滕哈特都和曼联传出绯闻。但合同即将到期的博格巴有意离队，而一旦曼联无法获得下赛季的欧冠参赛资格，恐怕无法留住C罗等球星，下赛季的曼联依然难以被人们看好。
